Every time I conduct a seminar and workshop on Law of Attraction, it is usually from a general, more global point of view. I typically do not address a person's specific issue, or if I do, I keep the interaction brief.
Then I created a class dedicated to boosting self esteem and confidence. While that class was running, I thought about another class for dissolving negative emotions.
What I noticed is the approach to solving these two challenges were virtually the same. Of course there were some specific actions a person might have to take relative to his issue. But the inspiration for the action for all of us emerges from the same place. We all have our own favorite names for how we describe this place. I like Consciousness or, as Abraham-Hicks says, Source Energy.
One day, while having a conversation with my teenage son, I shared with him some of the ideas I thought could be addressed and aided with successfully applied Law of Attraction skills. I mentioned the two above, plus I added: improve relationships, improve health, release addictions, even increase income . . . all using Law of Attraction principles.
His response to me was, "(insert mocking tone here) Wash the dishes with The Law of Attraction, fix your car with The Law of Attraction." I smiled as he walked away, but I couldn't help but think about it. Sure you can do those things with The Law of Attraction by attracting someone else to do the dishes for you, or some spare time to catch up with ALL the housework. And, you may not be able to fix your car, but you will attract the right mechanic at the right time for the right amount of money. Yes, Law of Attraction can do that!
No matter what my son thinks about what I believe, I can tell he's a pretty good deliberate creator (someone who DELIBERATELY creates their own reality). Most of the time he gets pretty much what he puts his attention, energy, and focus upon (usually has something to do with electronics and computers). It comes naturally to him. In fact, that reminds me of a phrase I once heard which said, "
My interpretation of that statement is young people intuitively know things we are attending seminars, lectures, classes, etc. to learn. The difference is we have given it a label so we can identify it and talk about it. After all, we are in physical bodies so we may as well take advantage of all of our five senses. Talking about this - what was referred to as new thought in the early 1900s - new awareness we are receiving, gives it attention, energy and focus, and we then attract more of the same. And, it enables us to interact with people of all ages, as we all are speaking a universal language.
That having been said, according to science, most teenagers do not yet have the ability to see everything from a strictly cognitive level. Now don't you teenagers get mad at me. If you're reading this, I didn't say ALL teenagers. Please keep reading.
A study was conducted by the National Institute of Mental Health (NIH) and UCLA of normal brain development in young people from age 4 to 21. The study showed, "It now appears the brain continues to change into the early 20's with the frontal lobes, responsible for reasoning and problem solving, developing last." http://www.edinformatics.com/news/teenage_brains.htm
Young people have all this wonderful awareness and ability to understand but there is resistance because they are still developing, still evolving physically as well as mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. Perhaps it is a safety valve so they can concentrate on how to get along in the world at that age. So much is changing and going on in their lives, they need space and time to take it all in. Later, when everything is figured out, they can (as can we all) temporarily suspend space and time. I look at my son and think, "What a wonderful sight to behold."
I recently met a young woman who designs websites. She and my son actually are acquaintances. When I mentioned to my son I was thinking of hiring her to design my website, he was insulted. I thought for sure he wouldn't be interested in working on something he
So what about that mocking tone when I share Law of Attraction ideas with my teenage son? I'm in no hurry. I just need to give it a few years.
